Mo. Sheriff's Deputy Dies after Medical Emergency at Headquarters
A Missouri deputy died Wednesday after suffering an on-duty medical emergency.
St. Louis Sheriff's Deputy Dennis Boyd collapsed during his morning shift and was found unresponsive by colleagues at the agency's headquarters, KMOV-TV reports. CPR was performed on Boyd until medics arrived, but he died at the hospital.
“Dennis Boyd is just a good, hardworking deputy," said St. Louis Sheriff Vernon Betts. "He’s the kind of guy that you would want on your team."
Boyd had a 20-year law enforcement career, and he is survived by his wife. His death comes days after a St. Louis police officer was killed in the line of duty.
Officer David Lee was working at a crash scene Sunday when he was struck by a suspected drunken driver. He was rushed to hospital, but he died in surgery.
“Being in law enforcement is a very heartbreaking kind of job at times,” said Betts.
